Reading to the Animals

Interactive Animal Reading Sessions

Join us every 2nd Saturday and 4th Sunday of the month between 1 pm and 3 pm for a memorable experience that connects the joy of reading with the soothing company of our animal family.

Your Unique Experience Involves:

  • 🐖 Whispers to the pigs

  • 🐑 Tales for the sheep

  • 🐓 Stories for our feathered friends!

With a suggested donation of $20 per family, you’re not just sharing stories but also contributing to the care and wellbeing of our beloved animals. Your contribution aids us in providing food, shelter, and love to our furry and feathered residents.

You must come for a farm visit before you can schedule a time to read to the animals.

Reading to our animals is a mostly independent activity and our readers will feel most comfortable at the farm and with the animals after their initial tour and visit.

Why share stories with animals?

Reading books to animals offers amazing benefits to both animals and humans! By visiting our farm and engaging in this activity with your kids, friends, or family, you may provide and enjoy the following benefits:

Benefits for Humans

Emotional Comfort
Reading to animals can provide emotional comfort and decrease feelings of loneliness, as the human engages in a social act without judgment or criticism.

Stress Reduction
Interacting with animals is known to reduce stress levels, and coupling this with the immersive act of reading can amplify this effect.

Improved Literacy Skills
For children and adults learning to read or those trying to enhance their literacy skills, reading to a non-judgmental audience like animals can boost confidence and literacy skills.

Social Skills Development
Engaging with animals through reading can enhance social skills, especially in individuals who might find human interaction more challenging.

Empathy
The activity fosters empathy and kindness by nurturing a caring attitude towards another being.

Benefits for Our Animals

Socialization
Our animals greatly benefit from the social interaction and 1:1 interaction this activity brings. Experiencing human voice and presence helps our new animals get used to people, and our older animals love it too!

Stress Reduction
The calm, steady voice of a reader can be soothing to animals, reducing their stress and anxiety.

Behavioral Improvements
Regular, positive interactions with humans, like being read to, can sometimes help mitigate behavioral issues.

Environmental Enrichment
Adding varied activities, such as having humans read to them, provides animals with environmental enrichment, preventing boredom and potentially enhancing mental stimulation.
